How To Improve Your Intimate Relationships

Whether you are in a long-term relationship, have recently fallen head-over-heels for the partner of your dreams, or been locked in wedlock for what seems like eternity, there is always room for improvement in your relationship. The reality is that in order to have a happy existence with another person a little bit of regular effort is required. And preferably from both parties.

Being emotionally aware will also enable you to spot early signs that something isn’t quite right, so you can remedy the situation before your relationship starts floundering. This awareness comes from acting on what your intuition tells you. If a nagging feeling develops be ready to anticipate changes. Should you get a sense that something is brewing check for signs of where the problem may lie. But if you’re simply experiencing butterflies in your stomach you are very lucky!

Here, for the rest of us, are a few ideas for instant improvement…

1. Upgrade your world for 24 hours - Sip champagne instead of the bargain-of-the-week wine; order in gourmet takeaway; bathe in a heavenly-scented, candle-lit bath; spritz yourself with seductive fragrance; wear luxurious fabrics close to the skin… Act like a princess, for the day, and your partner will treat you like one. Just don’t get too used to it!

2. Smile more -What could be easier? Smiling, even when you feel like frowning, instantly lifts your mood and makes you look more approachable, and attractive. It also lets your partner know that you are happy to be around them. Make it a genuine smile though, by making sure your eyes are smiling too.

3. Make plans - I don’t mean how many babies you’d like to have. (Not a good move if it’s a brand spanking new relationship!). Instead plan to take time off together so you can make arrangements for a last minute holiday, or an indulgent weekend break in a country hotel. Maybe you’d prefer a night at the theatre, or a romantic dinner for two. Making plans, both together and as a surprise, will create fond memories to share throughout your relationship.

4. Leave work on time – Just because you are in a loved-up situation it doesn’t mean you can start taking your partner for granted. Keeping to arrangements shows respect for the other person, and makes them feel cherished. So if you say you will do something make sure nothing stops you doing it. Not having to come up with excuses also means your relationship stays stress-free.

5. Spend an hour on the phone - Simply because you want to. Communication is the key to happy relationships. Taking the opportunity to talk openly whenever you want to should be top of your relationship priorities. Knowing when to shut up and listen is equally as important. Showing your partner that you have time for them whenever they need it will prove you value them, and guarantee your bond remains intact.

6. Wear your favourite clothes - Don’t opt for the comfortable, understated look all of the time, because this begins to zap your sexual energy. Instead choose the sexiest lingerie and mood enhancing outfits in your wardrobe. You will feel a boost in your confidence almost immediately. Looking your best for your partner rarely goes unnoticed, or unrewarded!

7. Have a pyjama day – As a contrast to wearing your favourite clothes, indulge in taking them off. Learn to spend quality time, with your partner, in the bedroom. Dress up, role-play, use props and toys… Explore your sexuality, and make it a regular occurrence.

8. Make time for your needs – Goes without saying really, but making sure you each have time for your own individual needs is paramount. Having separate interests, and friends, keeps your partnership fresh. Sharing your experiences, and differences, creates yet another intimate moment between you.

9. Show gratitude – Tell your partner how you feel about them. What you love, cherish and admire. Remembering to say thank you, even for the little things they do, will make your partner feel appreciated. And isn’t that a good thing for any relationship?

10. Dream of the future – Use visualisation to improve the potential of your togetherness. Picturing blissed out images of the two of you will give you a physical and emotional message that is highly effective in creating the future you dream about. Indulge in reflective moments to your heart’s content. And feel smug in the knowledge that it’s doing you both the world of good.
